ทน.เชียงใหม่ ชี้แจง กรณีห้ามเล่นสเก็ตบอร์ดบนลานอนุสาวรีย์สามกษัตริย์ ตามที่มีข่าวปรากฏ ในสื่อออนไลน์ ว่า “เทศบาลฯ เข้ม!! ติดป้ายห้ามเล่น สเก็ตบอร์ด บนลานอนุสาวรีย์ สามกษัตริย์ เกรงทำทรัพย์สิน ราชการเสียหาย หากพบมีการฝ่าฝืน จะดำเนินคดีตามกฎหมาย” เผยแพร่ทางเพจข่าว ทางเทศบาลนครเชียงใหม่ ขอเรียนชี้แจง ดังนี้
เนื่องจากลานอนุสาวรีย์ สามกษัตริย์ เป็นพื้นที่สาธารณะ ที่ทุกคนต้องใช้ร่วมกัน และมีหลักเกณฑ์ ในการขออนุญาตใช้พื้นที่ บริเวณอนุสาวรีย์ สามกษัตริย์ อย่างชัดเจน ตามประกาศเทศบาลนครเชียงใหม่
เรื่อง การขอใช้พื้นที่ บริเวณลานอนุสาวรีย์ สามกษัตริย์ ประกาศ ณ วันที่ 30 มิถุนายน 2557 เทศบาลนครเชียงใหม่ จึงจำเป็นต้องขอให้ประชาชน งดเล่นสเก็ตบอร์ดในพื้นที่ดังกล่าว
ทั้งนี้ เทศบาลนครเชียงใหม่ ยังได้มีการตรวจสอบ ภาพจากกล้องโทรวงจรปิด ที่บันทึกเหตุการณ์ เมื่อวันที่ 19 มกราคม 2564 พบว่า มีกลุ่มผู้เล่นสเก็ตบอร์ด จำนวนหนึ่ง มาเล่นสเก็ตบอร์ดที่ลานอนุสาวรีย์ สามกษัตริย์
และมีผู้เล่นบางคน เล่นสเก็ตบอร์ด ด้วยท่าทางผาดโผน โดยการนำแผงเหล็ก ซึ่งเป็นทรัพย์สินของทางราชการ มาวางบนลาน และกระโดดข้าม ตลอดจนกระโดดขึ้นไปบนขั้นบันได หน้าพระบรมราชานุสาวรีย์ สามกษัตริย์ ทำให้สเก็ตบอร์ด กระแทกแผ่นหินอ่อน จนแตกเสียหาย
สำหรับประชาชน ที่ต้องการพื้นที่ ในเล่นสเก็ตบอร์ด เทศบาลนครเชียงใหม่ ได้จัดให้มีพื้นที่เล่นสเก็ตบอร์ด บริเวณสนามกีฬา เทศบาลนครเชียงใหม่ (ฝั่งตรงข้ามมหาวิทยาลัยการกีฬาแห่งชาติ วิทยาเขตเชียงใหม่)
นอกจากนี้ ยังมีพื้นที่ของเอกชน ที่เปิดให้นำสเก็ตบอร์ด ไปเล่นได้ อาทิ ลานประเสริฐแลนด์ ลานใต้สะพานข้ามแยกดอนจั่น หรือ ลานหน้าเซ็นทรัล เฟสติวัล เชียงใหม่ เป็นต้น
